This past Saturday, we hosted what has quickly become one of our absolute favorite events of the year: the Last Long Run, sponsored by New Balance.
WHAT IS THE LAST LONG RUN?
Basically the last hurrah before the Boston Marathon. You get your final long run in (about 20-22 miles depending on the runner) before the taper period.

WHAT IS THE TAPER PERIOD?
A 2-3 week time period where runners training for a marathon decrease their training in order to let their muscles and body rebuild and refuel before race day. Characterized by crankiness and ravenous hunger.
So anyway, our friends from New Balance have been kind enough for the last few years to sponsor transportation of more than 100 runners out to the 5 mile mark of the Boston Marathon. The runners get dropped off out there and run the marathon course all the way back to the finish line, just outside our Boston store. Doesn’t that sound like fun?! Just ask these folks:
There is an electric energy on the Boston Marathon course on a weekend morning in March. And on Last Long Run day, that energy is almost palpable. There are so many people out on the course and water/cheering stations everywhere.
New Balance also sponsors a fantastic post-run spread including bagels, coffee, and a giant platter of donuts that was gone in about 2 minutes 😉
